Well, I have finally decided to sell her. The family needs something a little bit bigger and as much as I hate to do it, this gem needs a new home. I have owned 2 other Sunraders in the past, this one is my absolute preferred setup.

The run down. This is an all original 1978 Sunrader, almost exactly as it would have come from the factory. All upholstery, fabric, floor, cabinets, appliances are original and fully functional. The Fiberglass is in good shape, a few imperfections as would be expected with something this age, but nothing at all serious. The cab is in good shape, it has the original dealer optioned factory air conditioning which was recently serviced and blows cold. The seats are original with no rips or tears. This is the ultra rare front dinette layout, with the rear door, and rear opening hatch, which is completely awesome.

It is only 17 feet long, making it a shorty, well even shorter than the 18 foot models, and 3655 pounds wet weight – meaning it’s about one thousand pounds lighter than the newer 18 foot sunrader models. It averages 18.5 miles per gallon, as it did on our 1100 mile trip just last month. The engine is in amazing shape, it burns no oil, or any other fluid leaking. It was just serviced by our mechanic who knows the 20R inside and out. The valves were adjusted, exhaust manifold gasket replaced, AC serviced, fluids changed – all done last month. In the last 10,000 miles even more maintenance was performed.

Recent maintenance performed in the last 2 years:
valve adjustment, AC serviced, new exhaust manifold gasket, carb retuned.
oil changes every 3k miles
new batteries, both engine and coach
6 new tires all around
new fuel filter
new clutch and master cylinder
new brakes all around and front shocks
new spark plugs / wires
water pump replaced
propane tank replaced
battery terminals replaced
new starter
6 new tires all around

Camper overview:
It’s a 78 Toyota Sunrader. 20R Engine, 4 speed manual which averages about 18-19 miles to the gallon.
111,100 original miles
Front Cab AC blows cold
Rare front dinette layout, with original dinette table, cushions.
Rear opening hatch that props up ( see photos ), also has a rear door.
Double sink, stove, oven with built in heater function, toilet, 3 way fridge, two roof vents, stove range with exahust fan, very cool original lights throughout the rig as well.
110v outlets x2 and also 12v outlet in coach
Cab over bed can slide out to become a massive california king or also slide in for a more standard full size. dinette converts to sleep another 2 as well

Will include Haynes and clymer manuals

The cons are: There are a few dings and scratches on the hood. Left one of the roof vents open during a storm and there is a slight bit of water staining on part of the headliner fabric.

This is a true classic, serious offers only please. Thanks for your interest, please feel free to call or text with any questions.

  1. Wow. I find you camper absolutely adorable. After just selling my car, I got up all excited today about finding my new Toyota replacement. I have been debating about whether to get a vintage Toyota pickup or camper. I wonder this is the one? Even if the miles are higher than what I was shooting, for this little beauty really stands out, I confess I’m more familiar with the 22R than the 20R. But I really like that it’s manual. Mileage sounds decent… What is the maximum speed it can do on the freeway? Does this smaller model include any storage space for hanging clothing? Does the bathroom include a a shower head? I have been planning to go visit some friends in soon in Portland where I grew up and I’m willing to pay a good price for a good model. I didn’t get quite as much for my Grand Jeep Wagoneer as I was hoping but it never fit me -being an automatic and a V8 gas guzzler. (my X husband bought it as a gift – he never got me, obviously LOL)
I’m just about to go away for Labor day weekend and return to the West Cost on the 5th. Okay, I’ll admit I live San Francisco -but don’t hate me, I’m a displaced Oregonian! I just hope it would pass rigid smog tests here. Anyhow, I have a business to trip immediately following on the 13th up to Vancouver BC… But I I could even leave sooner, buy your lovely little camper, and drive up instead to visit my friends in PDX on the way. If I could cancel my flight and find a way to park somewhere near the conference… Is that too tacky?, Im sure the hotel would be thrilled. Of course, you may sell the camper before I could even got this sorted… Anyhow, after seller’s cut from my sale, I have a smidge over 10k to spend on a new vehicle. Would you consider than range a low ball offer? You can reach me at 415-816-6943.
