You can’t help but fall in love with these little gems.
It will run all day long at 60 mph without a problem. It gets 18 – 20 mpg (depending on terrain and weather conditions) and never fails to start. Everything works properly. There is the predictable wear for a vehicle of this age but it was well maintained there is absolutely no rust and is ready to go. The previous owner put new tires on it shortly before I bought it and I only put on about 7,000 miles.
I bought this last fall because I wanted to try out RVing for the winter. I paid $9200 and installed a new stove ( $500) had the roof professionally resealed ($1,000) I installed new cab carpet and neoprene seat covers ($300). I also had a mechanic inspect and upgrade the engine and drive train as well as repair an exhaust leak. I took it from Michigan to New Mexico for the winter spent a bit of time exploring and returned to Michigan.
While in New Mexico I had some minor transmission issues and ultimately had the Trans completely rebuilt. The mechanic told me the problem was that it hadn’t been driven enough and all of the seals had dried out and were failing, hence the rebuild ($4,000).. . The RV thing isn’t for me so I’d like to get my original purchase price out of it. It is in better shape than when I bought it but I have no complaints.
This is an ideal vehicle for weekend getaways, concerts and vacation adventures. You can get in and go with confidence.
